Sole Sisters

One of my favorite things about running and fitness are the people I get to meet along the way. Each of us has a unique journey and we often cross paths with people who come and go. Occasionally though, we find a few who stay in our lives forever.

About a little over a year ago, I met Melissa (@melliecay): my sole sister, aka my sharer of secrets and sweat, fellow ab enthusiast and all around badass.

How did it happen? Well last July, Nike LA and Finish Line invited me to the launch of Nike Track Club in Del Amo. Melissa was also one of the few invited to attend.

What began as a friendly conversation during the event evolved into an Instagram friendship and then frequent workout and running sessions together. Over time, we scheduled brunches, early morning ‘for-fun’ photoshoots, sleepovers, international travel, hours of heart-felt talks and weekly adobo nights. She was there for my best and my worst — I never would have imagined that through running I’d meet someone that I can now call family.

It’s been quite the adventure. My life has changed on so many levels, for the better, and everyday I’m growing in part because of her. I thank her for being the older sister I never had and a continued inspiration. Happy Birthday and I can’t wait to celebrate more years of friendship, laughter, tears, sweat and adventure. Together.

Happy Birthday, Mel!
Mahal kita talaga.
