Ragnar Northwest Passage 2016

I did it again…another 200ish-mile relay with 12 runner friends from California, Seattle and North Carolina. In a little over 31 hours, we ran from Blaine (basically the US/Canada border) to Langley, Washington on very little sleep and minimal showers. I guess you can call us crazy.

Truth is, this race was more than that for me. I’ve been in a slump these past few months. I’m quite unhappy with where I’m at physically and I’ve been lacking the motivation to make change. Going into Ragnar Northwest Passage (NWP), I decided this was going to be a new start. I’m going to dig deep and find motivation that will help me get back to my happy place. No matter how tired, hungry, and sore I was, I wanted to push through to show myself that I can conquer this race and as a symbol that I will overcome my slump. I wanted to learn again how to love myself completely – inside and out.

(Fun fact: I listened to one track the entire race: Inside Out by The Chainsmokers).

While running Ragnar, I realized that I’m not alone. I’m not the only person who is struggling in this race and in life. We all have our own reasons, things to overcome and hardships. Heck, I probably don’t have it as bad as others. So during the race, I changed my mindset from focusing on me to being there for others. Because I know the feeling of defeat and I also know how meaningful simple words of encouragement are, I wanted to be that encouragement for others.

During Ragnar, I did my very best to be positive for others despite being super exhausted. Because we don’t give kinds words often enough, I wanted to be that person who says simple but meaningful things like “you got this,” “you can do it,” and “I’m rooting for you.” I do it because I can, I do it because I care, and I do it because others deserve to hear it more often.

Today and every day, know that I’m rooting for you. If I can do this, you can too. Let’s win together!

Congratulations to all the runners at Ragnar Relay Northwest Passage and thank you to everyone who cheered us along the way. Special thanks to our sponsors LUNA, Clif Bar, Wtrmln Wtr and ShowerPill.
