I am a superhero

…and so are you.

Hear me out.

A few months ago, I ran into a very much respected coworker (and role model), Christina, who I hadn’t seen in a while. She asked me if I was still running marathons and how it was going. At the time, I was in such a rut and vented to her.

“I’m still running half marathons, but I feel like a hypocrite. I’m not fast.”

There’s this misconception that if you’re a runner, you must be fast. I let this get to me but Christina’s response changed my perspective. To this day, I always look back in time to that simple conversation we had while waiting for our coffee.

“You are a superhero…”

She elaborates (I’m paraphrasing): There are many people in this world who can’t even imagine running a mile, 5K or even a marathon. To them, you are superhero.

This can be true for many other things. So remember this, when you’re feeling discouraged. Give yourself some credit. You’re a lot more awesome than you think.

I’m not a fast runner and I’m okay with that.
